Featured Composer: Hiroyuki Sawano

Hiroyuki Sawano is a composer, lyricist, arranger, and music producer from Tokyo, Japan. He is renowned for his evocative scores in anime, television shows, video games, and films. Sawano’s musical journey began in elementary school when he started to play the piano. Under the mentorship of Nobuchika Tsuboi, Sawano honed his skills in composition and orchestration, and eventually furthered these studies at a vocational school. Since launching his career in the early 2000s, the Japanese composer has produced scores for acclaimed projects such as Attack on Titan, The Seven Deadly Sins, Solo Leveling, Seraph of the End, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill and many more.


Sawano’s music is characterized by its dynamic orchestration, blending traditional Japanese elements with contemporary orchestral and electronic sounds. His ability to create emotionally resonant and intense scores has made him a favorite among fans and creators alike. Notable for his signature style, which often includes powerful choral elements and dramatic crescendos, Sawano has significantly influenced the landscape of anime music. Sawano has won a plethora of Newtype Anime Awards as well as Tokyo Anime Awards. 


In addition to piano and multimedia composition, Hiroyuki Sawano places a strong emphasis on songwriting. Under the alias “SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]”, the Tokyo native produces vocal projects with various Japanese artists.
